A motorist under the influence of drugs erratically drove an SUV through a Newark-area golf course, hitting a golf cart and injuring one person, police said.

The incident happened at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Deerfield Golf Club, which is part of White Clay Creek State Park on Thompson Station Road, according to Delaware Natural Resources Police.

Video of the incident circulating on social media shows the Ford Bronco drive off a road onto the golf course. It heads toward one golfer, who was able to jump out of the way, and then hits a golf cart before fleeing the scene.

One person was ejected from the golf cart and received minor injuries.

Police located and arrested the driver of the Bronco, who “made statements which required his transport to a hospital for evaluation.”

The driver will be charged with DUI, reckless endangering, leaving the scene of a collision, malicious mischief by a motor vehicle, failure to have insurance in possession, operating a motor vehicle in areas not designed for such purpose and operating a vehicle in parkland with willful disregard for safety of persons and property. He will be arraigned after being released from the hospital.

Police have not yet released the driver's name.
