Police are looking for leads after a fire destroyed a playground in a neighborhood east of Newark.

The fire happened just after 6 p.m. Sept. 23 in Brookhaven Park, a county-owned park in the Brookhaven neighborhood off Harmony Road.

The Mill Creek Fire Department extinguished the flames, but the fire caused structural damage to the plastic playground equipment.

The New Castle County Police Department and state fire marshal's office are investigating the fire. Police are asking anyone with surveillance footage from the area to contact Fire Marshal Thomas Looney at 302-323-5375 or via email at Thomas.Looney@delaware.gov. Tipsters can also contact Det. Andrew Fitzgerald at 302-395-8133 or Andrew.Fitzgerald@newcastlede.gov.
