The theme of this year’s festival is “Small Towns, Big Dreams,” and to that end, the number of events and attractions this year are nearly too numerous to count. This year marks the return of the Chalk Art Party from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 27, on the forecourt in front of the Chehalem Cultural Center. Chalk will be provided, as will free snacks and music. Participants will be eligible to win a $25 gift card (one for adults, one for youths) that will be redeemable for CCC classes and workshops. <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> Visit chehalemculturalcenter.org/events for more information. As is custom, the four-day run will kick off in earnest at 6 p.m. July 27 with the Children’s Parade, which will wind its way through a nearly half-mile loop that starts at the school district headquarters on Sixth Street. Kids are invited to ply the route after adorning themselves and their mode of transport in any manner they see fit. Immediately following the kids’ parade is the popular dog costume contest at 7 p.m. on the Cultural Stage at Renne Field. Contest categories include most creative, most hilarious, best human and dog lookalike, and best in show. The event is weather-dependent — it can be canceled due to rain or extreme heat. One of six members of the festival court will be chosen as its queen and preside over Old Fashioned Festival during a coronation set for 8 p.m. on the main stage at Memorial Park. The event typically draws hundreds to witness the crowning of the new queen, who will make an official proclamation opening the festival. <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> The popular carnival will return after a multi-year absence at Renne Field. Highlights on the main stage at Memorial Park include guitarist Steve Adams from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Newberg native Ben Rice &amp; The Portland Hustle from 8:30 to 10 p.m. July 27. On July 28, from 7 to 9 p.m., the Bartolotti Brothers will play rock and blues. From 2 to 3 p.m. July 29, the Bull Mountain Brass will entertain, before Los Plebes Del 503 takes the stage from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The Rob Rainwater Trio will entertain from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The Ty Curtis Band is the headliner that Saturday evening from 8 to 9:30 p.m. <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> The popular Rotary Pancake Breakfast is set for 6 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 29, and 7 a.m. to noon Sunday, July 30, at Memorial Park. A children’s talent show, called Newberg’s Got Talent, is set for 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. July 29 on the main stage in Memorial Park. The registration deadline is July 25 at tinyurl.com/4t4yevc5. The grand parade is set for 10 a.m. to noon July 29 on a route that begins at Edwards Elementary and travels counterclockwise to end up at the school district office. One of the primary draws of the festival, thousands of parade-watchers typically line the route to witness the floats, bands, fire apparatus and other entries. The fireworks show is set for 10 p.m. July 29 at Renne Field. Infamous Soul will entertain the fireworks-watchers from 7 to 10 p.m. <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> The cultural stage has a variety of acts from 4 to 10 p.m. July 29 and July 30. It features everything from DJs, folklorico dancers and Latino bands to performers from the Chehalem Valley Dance Academy and mariachi bands. The Scout Expo is set for 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 30 at Renne Field and features outdoor recreation activities, carnival and skills games, Dutch oven tastings, a Tualatin Valley Fire &amp; Rescue Safety House, a lookout tower and Smokey Bear. The festival’s Cruise-In is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 30, on Sixth Street in front of the school district building. Registration is $20.
