The Christmas Season
There is no better season than the Christmas season. Don’t we all just love the days of expectation throughout Advent leading up to Christmas Day? Then for another week, the New Year’s Day celebrations keep spirits high. Then – BAM – our enthusiasm for everything dwindles and we return to our normal lives. Our normal routines kick in and despite often-short-lived resolutions, our lives go on without much reflection on God and the meaning of life. Do we really think it was God’s intention for the joy of Christmas to occur but once a year, lasting maybe for the month of Advent to simply disappear until the next year?

Holiday traditions from sweet to ugly
The Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower were not too keen on celebrating Christmas when they anchored in Plymouth Rock on Dec. 18, 1620. By 1659, the Massachusetts Bay Colony declared celebrating Christmas was a criminal offense and anyone found feasting or celebrating would be subject to a 5-shilling fine (around $50, if I did the math right).
Caring for others
When we love someone, it’s natural that we want to give them something. We show our affection to others with different kinds of giving. It’s not always money or gifts. Our giving may be of our time and energies. Being with someone when they are lonely, bringing joy to someone when they are sad.
