Just how clean is your vehicle?
My wife and I have been catching up on episodes of “The Mysteries of Laura,” the 2014-2016 NBC series starring Debra Messing. Forget murders and chases. The real reason the show resonates with me is because as Laura Diamond juggles the duties of a single mother and police detective, she’s understandably a slob with her car.
The misery of madness
The condition known simply as “madness” has plagued people for centuries. Prehistoric cultures thought madness was the work of evil spirits or demons who took control of the body. Early Greek and Chinese cultures believed the evil spirits could be conquered through prayer, flogging, starvation, or purging. Purging involved drinking a horrible tasting potion in order to expel the evil from the body. It didn’t work.
The “take-away” people
In 1920, the taverns ran dry. The Eighteenth Amendment, also called the Volstead Act, was passed by the U.S. Congress and the amendment was ratified by three-quarters of the nation’s states, despite a veto from President Woodrow Wilson, (bless his heart). It was never illegal to “consume” alcohol during Prohibition, you just couldn’t make it, sell it or ship it.

Runners impress at PTC Foundation’s Spring Forward 5K
NEWBERRY — A relatively unknown (for now) road race in Greenwood attracted some serious competitors at the Piedmont Technical College (PTC) Foundation’s 3rd Annual Spring Forward for Student Success 5K Run/Walk on March 23, 2024. Top overall male finisher Aaron King, 34, of Greenwood completed the 5K distance in an impressive 17:11.60, keeping an average pace of 5:32 per mile. Top overall female finisher Lacy Latham, 19, of North Augusta covered the distance in 24:06.97, with an average pace of 7:46 per mile. Fifty-four (54) runners and more than 40 walkers went the distance in near-perfect-though-damp conditions. As if on cue, the sun broke through the clouds during the awards ceremony.
