Mid-Carolina’s varsity girls track team finished 3rd at the Upper State Meet
PROSPERITY, S.C. — The lady Rebels of Mid-Carolina girls’ varsity of track team placed in the top five at Upper State Meet on Saturday, May 11th. The meet took place at Liberty High School and 20 teams competed. Mid-Carolina had over 15 participants finish in the top 10 of their individual events. Congratulations to the Lady Rebels on an outstanding season. Below are the full results.
Rebels’ boys track team placed in top 10 of Upper State Meet
PROSPERITY, S.C. — The Mid-Carolina boys’ varsity track team competed in the Upper State meet on Saturday, May 11th. They Rebels had a seventh place finish out of 20 teams. There were also seven athletes that had top-10 finishes in their individual events. Below are the full results and congratulations to the Rebels on an outstanding season.
Rebels’ golf team wins fourth consectuive region championship
PROSPERITY, S.C. — The Mid-Carolina Rebels varsity boys’ golf team brings home their fourth consecutive region championship. Carter Hendrix shot a career low round of 66 to help propel the Rebels to another region title. Mid-Carolina finished the day with a total of 310 and were 19 shots ahead of Abbeville, who finished as the runner-up. Hendrix also earned medalist honors and was named region player of the year this season.

Crowell gets multiple first place finishes at LR Last Chance Meet
HICKORY, N.C. – The Newberry College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field program participated in the LR Last Chance Meet in Lenoir-Rhyne over the weekend. Senior thrower Kegan Crowell took first place in Discus and Hammer Throw. In the discus throw Crowell’s 50.58-meter (165 feet 11inch) toss beat out the second-place thrower by 11 meters. In the hammer throw, Crowell’s 51.48-meter (168 feet 10 inches) throw gave him his second first place finish of the afternoon.
Crowell wins SC Army National Guard Player of the Week
NEWBERRY – Last week’s South Carolina Army National Guard Player of the Week is Kegan Crowell. Crowell, a three-time SAC performer of the week, won the SAC titles in the discus and hammer and broke the conference record in the discus. He currently has the 12th best discus mark in the country and should receive an invitation to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Emporia, Kan., May 23-25. Crowell was by far the most dominant discus performer in the league, winning the event by 15 feet. He also won the SAC discus title in 2023.

City of Newberry hires new City Manager
NEWBERRY — At a special called meeting of City Council on Tuesday evening, April 30, Jason Taylor, of Winnsboro, SC, was unanimously selected as the new City Manager for the City of Newberry.
