Three shot in Newberry, one death

NEWBERRY — On Saturday, April 20, 2024, officers with the Newberry Police Department responded to a shooting incident around Emory Street near Hunt Street in the City of Newberry around 9:22 p.m.

Once on scene, officers found three victims with apparent gunshot wounds. One victim was transported to Prisma Health Richland Hospital, another victim was treated on scene for non-life-threatening injuries, and the third victim died from his injuries.

Newberry County Coroner, Laura Kneece, identifies 53-year-old Troy Leonard Sims of Newberry, South Carolina as the victim who died on the scene of Hunt Street and Emory Street.

This homicide remains under investigation by the Newberry City Police Department, Newberry County Coroner’s Office, and the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
