    Newberry Adult and Continuing Education celebrates students

    NEWBERRY — Newberry Adult and Continuing Education (NACE) celebrated the achievements of its students with two ceremonies on May 7 and 9. The Student Success celebration was held on May 7 and featured award presentations, a guest speaker, and a catered meal by Blessed by the Best.

    Dr. Katrina Singletary, director of secondary education, was the guest speaker and encouraged students to believe in themselves, emphasizing that any goal in life can be accomplished with determination.

    The following students were recognized as outstanding achievers: Jermaine Cheek, Elitania Lopez-Martinez, Laura Floras Vasquez, Areli Galindo Vega, Gregg Cofer, Miquel Martinez, Zoee Boyd, Brenda Livingston, Hanif Sligh, Miguel Hernandez, Carl Long, Jennifer Lopez, Jose Luna, Shimey Maldonado Rios, Mario Bravo Aguilera, Laura Flores, Silvina Mendoza, Gabriela Merida, Clisman Morales, Hugo Morales, Alma Oseguera, and Udiel Perez.

    NACE held its graduation ceremony on May 9 with 40 students earning a high school diploma or GED during the 2023-2024 school year. Thomas Caldwell and Shimey Maldonado Rios were student speakers at the graduation ceremony and spoke about what inspired them to return to school. Many of the graduates have already enrolled in college, the military, or entered the workforce system.

    NACE offers a range of programs to help students achieve their educational and career goals. These include classes for obtaining a high school equivalency diploma (HSED), a high school diploma (HSD), and a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). Additionally, NACE provides English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and family literacy (FL) programs. Both morning and evening classes are available, and all are taught by certified teachers.
