NEWBERRY — The State newspaper, one of the largest media outlets in South Carolina, released its annual all-area selections a few weeks ago and six Newberry County athletes were selected on the all-area team.

Mid-Carolina’s Jabari Flemon and Jacob Clark were first team selections.

Clark finished the season with a 9-3 record and a 1.72 ERA. He had 77 total strikeouts over 57 total innings pitched. He was named region 2-AA Pitcher of the Year, all-state selection and North-South all-star team selection as a senior this past season. He will continue his career right at home with Newberry College.

Flemon hit .355 with five home runs, 25 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases this past season as a senior. He also spent some time on the mound and had a 8-1 overall record with a 2.33 ERA along with two saves. He threw for a total of 48 innings and had 51 strikeouts. He was named region 2-AA Player of the Year, class 2A Co-Player of the Year, all-state selection and North-South all-star game selection. He will be playing college baseball at USC-Aiken.

Mid-Carolina’s Murray Johnson, Brady Davenport, Kaden Myers and Newberry High School’s Noah Mills were second team all-area selections.

Mills was selected to play in the North-South and will be taking his talents Newberry College as well. Johnson, Davenport and Myers help lead the Rebels to the state championship game this past season.

Congratulations to all six players and good luck next season!
