    Newcomerstown News: Newcomerstown cheerleaders fare well at camp

    Cheerleading Coach Haylee Elliott, shares: “The Newcomerstown High School cheerleaders attended UCA Great Wolf Lodge Cheerleading Camp at Mason, OH. Here, the cheerleaders work on skill sets like jumps, tumbling, motion technique/sharpness, team bonding, and learn the material to use on the sidelines such as band dances, cheers, chants, and timeout dances. The cheerleaders compete in the "camp dance" and the "rally routine" (Cheer, chant, band dance) on the final day."

    The cheerleaders received the following awards: first place Camp Dance in Varsity Large Non-Build, first place Rally Routine in Varsity Large Non-Build, Best Cheer in Varsity Large Non-Build, Best Rally Routine in Varsity Non-Build. The following cheerleaders received the All-American Award which they have to try out for: Heaven Amore, Emma Parry, Maggie Smith and Lauren Ahle.

    Newcomerstown Village Council Special Meeting notes

    A special council meeting was called on July 9 for purchases and the hiring of personnel. Councilperson Susan Little led the meeting due to Mayor Pat Cadle being on vacation.

    The village council voted to hire Braelyn Fish as a lifeguard, Lisa Weber for the concession stand and Ryan Wright for park seasonal work. The council also approved the purchase of three sets of fire gear for new firefighters joining the department.

    The next regular meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5 in the Village Administration Building located at 308 S. College St.

    ARTSNCT to feature Ohio photographer

    ARTSNCT will be featuring the stunning photography of Brennan McClain from Aug. 3-30. He is known for his exceptional use of color, detail, and natural light. McClain captures a variety of genres, including landscape, travel, and architecture.

    Born and raised in Ohio, McClain's love for the outdoors was sparked by family travels and Boy Scout adventures. His passion for photography ignited at 17 during a high school photography class, and since then, his work has been admired by many, including the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum in Coshocton.

    The opening reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3 at ARTSNCT, 304 S. College Street. This event is free and open to the public.

    Splash pad fundraiser canceled

    The pool party/event scheduled on Aug. 11 to benefit the splash pad at Cy Young Memorial Park has been canceled.

    Bingo update

    The new owner of the David Barber Civic Center is scheduled to take possession of the building next week. Shortly after they will be setting up a website so events can be scheduled. Bingo is expected to start in late July or early August. Soon-to-be owner Shawn Parker said they would be retaining the David Barber Civic Center name because of the community and its heritage.
