    Newcomerstown News: River poker run slated for Aug. 10 for kayakers and canoers

    A river poker run will take place Aug. 10 at the Simonds-Heller Park as part of Newcomerstown Now Second Saturday events.

    Participants can use either a kayak or canoe and there are two routes to choose from. The cost is $25.

    The first is 17 miles from Gnadenhutten to Newcomerstown. Participants can register at the Simonds-Heller Park at 8:30 a.m. The second is 6 miles from Newcomerstown to the West Lafayette 751 ramp. Registration will be at 11 a.m. at the park.

    If you do not want to kayak, Newcomerstown Now will have other activities at the parkn including a fishing derby from 9 a.m. to noon, a frog hunt from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a scavenger Hunt from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, Atom Lax will perform from 2 to 5 p.m. and there will be food trucks on-site from noon to 5 p.m.

    Meet the team

    Meet the team for fall sports will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Lee Stadium. A parents' meeting will start at 6 p.m.

    Vaccine clinic

    The Tuscarawas County Health Department will hold a back to school vaccine clinic, at Medi-Wise Pharmacy, by appointment only. Appointments are available from 9 .m. to noon Aug. 7 and 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 12. To schedule an appointment, call 330-343-5555. extension 1810.

    Bring an insurance card if applicable and parent identification. Cost is $21 is per vaccine for those uninsured. Cash or checks will be accepted.

    Bicycle round up

    A bicycle round up for children from kindergarten age to sixth grade will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 6, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Participants need to bring their bikes and helmets. If it rains, games, food, and crafts will be available indoors.

    Pool party

    A free community pool party will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5, at the Cy Young Pool, sponsored by Coshocton Regional Medical Center’s Arrowhead Primary Care Clinic and the Newcomerstown Walk-in Clinic,

    End of summer party

    The Newcomerstown Public Library will host an end of summer party for all ages from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2, with food, inflatables and music by Rust Monkey. Bring lawn chairs.
