Torrential rains lead to near-average runoff forecast for Missouri River basin
(Omaha) -- Torrential rains in parts of South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota have led to a near-average runoff forecast in 2024 for the Missouri River Basin. That was the message from U.S. Army Corps of Engineer officials during its monthly update Thursday. Since the last monthly update, heavy rainfall led to severe flooding in parts of northwest Iowa and minor to moderate flooding along the downstream Missouri River. For June, corps officials say runoff above Sioux City was 6.6 million acre-feet, or 119% of average and 2.6 million acre-feet higher than the forecast. Thus, Ryan Larsen Corps Engineer Adam Larsen says the 2024 calendar year runoff forecast for the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City has increased to 24.6 million acre-feet, or 96% of average.

125th Anniversary of Early Catholic Church to be Commemorated in August
The 125th anniversary of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early will be commemorated next month. Several events are planned for Sunday, August 4th. A mass will be held at 1pm that day. Clergy who have served the parish are invited to join Father Brent Lingle in celebrating the mass for the special occasion. Following the mass, refreshments will be served in the parish center. Sisters and Strings Infusion of Kansas City will provide music during that time from 2 to 4:30pm.
Sanborn Woman Pulled from Burning Vehicle
Alton, IA (KICD) — A Sanborn woman was pulled from a burning vehicle near Alton early Friday morning. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Department says 25 year old Madison Borden was Northbound on Highway 60 two miles South of town when she entered the median and rolled. Other motorists stopped to get her out after her Buck Terraza burst into flames.
Van Wyk takes on instructor role at Dordt University
Kyle Van Wyk has accepted a new position at Dordt University as Instructor of Health Sciences for the Health and Human Performance Department. A 2010 graduate from Dordt University, Van Wyk received a master’s degree in Exercise Science at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, and has served at Dordt as a Sport Performance Coach since 2018.
