YMCA CEO resigns to focus on camp rebuilding
YMCA CEO Mike Murphy has stepped down from the top leadership role to focus on rebuilding Camp Leif Ericson. The longtime Sioux Falls camp was heavily damaged in June’s flooding. The YMCA recently announced it exceeded a $100,000 fundraising effort to help restore the camp so it can host campers yet this summer.

Hundreds attend 38th Annual McBride Military Appreciation Barbecue
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Friday’s 38th Annual McBride Military Appreciation Barbecue at the Central States Fairgrounds saw hundreds of people joining together to celebrate active military and veterans making a difference in their community. The free event included an awards ceremony and miscellaneous attractions, including children’s activities, a robotic dog, and a helicopter taking off from a grassy lawn outside the Nerdy Nuts building where the barbecue was held.
Advocacy group prevents Vision Fund Revision ordinance from taking effect
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - It’s looking like the Rapid City Vision Fund revised ordinance could be on the November ballot. An advocacy group successfully received the 2,752 signatures needed to prevent the ordinance from going into effect. South Dakota community advocacy group “Liberty and Justice for All” collected approximately 200-plus signatures Friday to meet their goal.

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Finding the right hairstyle can be a challenge for kids, but for Finn Hannan of New Underwood, his unique style has led to a special calling. When Finn was about four, he had long, curly hair. "He wanted a boy haircut that's long," said his mother, Tami Hannan. "We introduced the idea of the mullet, and his uncle even got a mullet too, so Finn could be like him. It was really fun and kind of happened by accident."
