NEWINGTON — Fast food giant Chick-fil-A is expected to start dishing out orders in the coming months within its new 84-seat location in Newington , built in place of the demolished former Moko Japanese Steakhouse.

Construction of the 5,800-square-foot restaurant is in its final stages at 2060 Woodbury Ave., which is part of the Newington Park Shopping Center , according to Chick-fil-A franchisee Mike Vonhof. The owner and operator’s goal is to open the three-drive-through lane establishment by the end of the summer or the start of fall.

Chick-fil-A, known for its chicken sandwiches and waffle fries, is in the midst of hiring 100 full- and part-time employees for the Newington location, according to Vonhof.

Vonhof is a former 10-year resident of the Seacoast.

“The Seacoast region is one that’s close to my heart, filled with rich history, natural beauty and so many wonderful, hard-working people,” he said in a prepared statement. “Making a positive impact on our team members and guests is paramount, and we’re thrilled to bring 100 new jobs to the community.”

The plan to build the new Chick-fil-A in town was approved by the Newington Planning Board in December 2022. The approved proposal originally called for a roughly 4,700-square-foot restaurant with over 100 seats between the interior and an outdoor patio.

The business was originally expected to be open by the end of 2023, according to a past interview with a spokesperson for Torrington Properties, the owner of the Newington Park Shopping Center.

In 2021, Torrington Properties purchased the Newington Park Shopping Center for $13.3 million, located between the Mall at Fox Run and The Crossings. The 15-acre plaza is home to Joann Fabric and Crafts, Savers and other tenants.

Chick-fil-A reports operating over 3,000 locations across 48 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and Canada. The company has three present locations in New Hampshire, two in Nashua and the third in Tuscan Village in Salem.

Chick-fil-A’s Newington location will be open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to Vonhof.

Interviews for open positions at the restaurant will take place at the restaurant on Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. until noon. Interested applicants can first apply online at team.cfaseacoast.com .
