Community cheers completion of downtown sidewalk project
Lauderdale-By-The Sea – With the fluttering of a red ribbon over the brand-new sidewalk, the community cheered the completion of the town’s downtown sidewalk project. Town officials, members of the chamber of commerce, and other community leaders were present for the official Nov. 29 ribbon-cutting. The $1.45 million project includes wider sidewalks, dedicated outdoor dining space, new greenery, and trees wrapped in stringed lights.
Broward County, interfaith groups fight religious hatred
In the days, weeks, and months since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, hatred directed at Jews and Muslims has been on the rise. According to the New York Times, “Antisemitic content soared more than 919 percent on X and 28 percent on Facebook in the month since Oct. 7, according to the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish advocacy group. Anti-Muslim hate speech on X jumped 422 percent on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8, and rose 297 percent over the next five days, said the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, a London-based political advocacy group.”
Store your stuff and grab a bite: self storage building will include retail, restaurant
Pompano Beach – An unusual self storage building is coming to 950 E. McNab Road, one where you can dine and shop before or after you’ve stored your stuff. McNab Self Storage, which is currently under construction, will feature storage bays, storefronts and restaurant space; 8,000 square feet of commercial space divided into seven bays, and 47 parking spots – a development named McNab & Federal Plaza. The first floor will be used for commercial tenants. Floors 2 through 5 for self storage.
Holiday lights return
Looking for lots of lights this holiday season? There are amazing displays on land and sea. Pompano Beach – Over 170,000 lights decorate the Macek family home in Pompano every year, 2700 SE 6 St., including this year. Parking is allowed on nearby streets but Southeast 6 Street is closed, allowing pedestrians safe access to view the display.

We finally got our first real “cool” front last week and that will bring lots of snowbirds to our area, traffic will be insane and our favorite restaurants will be full. This cool front not only brings the snowbirds but also the manatees. It seems everyone is in search of the warmer air and ocean temperatures. Officially, the state-wide manatee season started Nov. 15 and ends March 31.
