FPL showcases “smart trimming” technology; tree trimming offered for free
Florida Power & Light (FPL) recently showcased its “smart trimming” technology, which the company claims helps make its tree maintenance efforts more efficient. In order to help maintain its infrastructure and prevent service interruptions caused by tree branches hitting power lines, one of the main causes of outages, FPL trims the trees and vegetation next to its lines.
State budget proposal focuses local funding on infrastructure and culture
State funding for a dozen infrastructure projects and a number of cultural grants for cities in northeast Broward await the governor’s signature. The appropriations total more than $7 million and would give a financial boost to the Dixie Highway project in Pompano Beach, drainage and bridge projects in Lighthouse Point, and a public safety building in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea.

Unopposed in special election, Newbold says she will run again in November
Oakland Park – Letitia Newbold, this city’s newly-elected city commissioner, said she will run again in November. Newbold, 52, who was appointed in March 2023 by the commission to serve until last month’s special election, ran unopposed. She’s currently serving out the term of former commissioner Matthew Sparks, who resigned his seat in January of 2023 because he was moving out of state. Her seat is on the ballot again in November.
