Waking Up: Happy birthday and happy berthday
As we approach August, my wife’s birthday looms on the horizon. Birthdays are a celebration of entry onto the physical plane. I’ve taken mine off from work every year since 1984 when I became self-employed. This year, I celebrated with a beautiful hour and a half massage, as well as a delicious sushi buffet feast, followed by a romantic walk by the Atlantic Ocean with my wife.
Viewpoints – Week of July 28
The July 12 Pompano Beach City Commission meeting was a horror show and especially at the end. To listen to Commissioner Andrea McGee and Mayor Rex Hardin, critical and insulting Vice Mayor Beverly Perkins, was unbelievable. These were nasty personal attacks on a colleague, Perkins, who made a simple mistake. She said something in anger. She didn’t kill someone.
Out of the Pulpit: Admitting you’re wrong and trying to make it right
Arguably the most important, but also the most painful, step to take in your personal growth is admitting when you are wrong. No one in their right mind enjoys admitting they are wrong, but admitting you are wrong can be one of the strongest proofs that you are not only in your right mind, but that you are genuinely striving to always be in the best frame of mind in all things. After all, why would any of us settle for less than the best?
Eye on the Arts: Pompano Beach native takes listeners “Back to the Basics”
Tony Testa, the songwriter-performer who grew up in Pompano Beach, is not to be confused with Tony Testa who sang with the Duprees, a 1960s doo-wop group. Nor with Tony Testa the choreographer from Colorado. But if you listen to his music or watch one of his videos, there’s no chance of that happening.

Even in this age of social media and instant sharing, local journalism is just as important as it was in the days before Facebook and Twitter. Your Facebook friend will post about the big, important issue of the day. But they probably won’t give you the whole story; just their version of it. It’s only human nature to do that, and that’s what makes journalism so important: We rise above how we may feel about a certain issue so our readers can base their own opinions on the best information available.

Fishing Report: Spotty fishing opens up new doors
Pictured here is Josh Davis with a black grouper that we caught on a Mission Fishin’ outing. The fishing throughout the week has been spotty with a handful of wahoo, bonito and sailfish. When the fishing gets tough we are always looking in a different direction to produce a catch as professional fishermen.
Eye on the Arts: Peter Olsen’s sacred visions are not for the fainthearted art lover
A visit to the art studio and gallery of Peter Olsen is not for the fainthearted. If your idea of art goes no further than a pretty flower or a boat, you might be in for a shock. Although as an award-winning artist in several media, he has done commercial work, and as an art teacher, he will help you draw or paint or collage a variety of work, his own images run to what might be called visionary surrealism.
