The Pfeiffer University softball team will be in Newport News, Virginia for the regional round of the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament as the NCAA released the field for the 62-team tournament.

The Falcons (43-2) are in the midst of the best season in school history and are coming off winning the USA South regular season and tournament championships and will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming regional hosted by top-seeded Christopher Newport at Captains Park.

Pfeiffer started the season on a 25-game winning streak and finished the USA South with a 16-2 overall record.  The Falcons won three games in the USA South Tournament bracket play and swept rival Greensboro College in the USA South Championship series for their second consecutive league title.

Pfeiffer’s Kenzi Lyall (Sparta, N.C.) and Kali Morton (Mooresville, N.C.) won USA South Player and Pitcher of the Year honors, also for the second-straight year.  Freshman Ky Perdue (Asheboro, N.C.) took home the USA South Rookie of the Year and head coach Monte Sherrill captured his third-straight league Coach of the Year award.

In addition, Pfeiffer took six All-USA South awards, with Emma Bullin (2B), Lyall (UT), Alyssa Broaddus (OF), Morton (P) earning first team nods and Gracie Griffin (1B) and Perdue (SS) earning second team honors.

In tournament play, Pfeiffer’s Kali Morton earned tournament MVP after going 4-0 in tournament play, including her first career no-hitter against William Peace to advance to the USA South Championship Series.  Bullin, Griffin and Broaddus also won All-USA South Tournament awards.

The Falcons will take on Ramapo College from Mahwah, New Jersey. Ramapo earned an at-large bid to the tournament after falling to Rowan 1-0 in the championship game of the NJAC Tournament. The Roadrunners enter the NCAA Regional Tournament as the No. 2 seed with a 31-10 overall record
