Lionsbridge advances, VB United ousted in USL 2 playoffs

NEWPORT NEWS (WAVY) – Isaiah Chisolm scored at the 89 minute mark of Lionsbridge FC’s USL 2 quarterfinal playoff match up against the Western Mass Pioneers, sending the Newport News club to Sunday’s semifinals.

Lionsbridge fell behind 1-0 but rallied to tie it and eventually won it on the late game heroics from Chisolm.

Friday’s double header opened up with Salem City against VB United.

Salem City led 2-0 at the half, but in the second half VB got on the board on a goal from Sam Phillips and then at the 86 minute mark it was Micah Wayland with the equalizer.

90 minutes were not enough in this one. It was still scoreless after two 15 minute overtime halves and the game eventually went to penalty kicks.

In the PK’s, Salem City prevailed as they advance to Sunday’s semifinals against Lionsbridge FC.
