Beverly Beach State Park will open on Aug. 1 after an 11-month construction closure.

The campground and day-use site, located 7 miles north of Newport, will reopen with new underground power lines, waterlines, repaving and the removal of hazard trees.

About 200 trees were removed due to public safety and the increased risk of dropping limbs. The tree removal is the most noticeable of the parks changes resulting in some campsites having less shade.

Park staff will plant a variety of native trees and shrubs better suited for the area, which is seeing hotter and drier conditions. The park is experiencing more tree mortality likely due to a receding water table.
