    10 Long Island school districts receiving state grants to expand pre-K programs

    According to the State Education Department, a total of 10 Long Island school districts have been awarded a total of $8.1 million to expand their pre-kindergarten programs.

    The Garden City Union Free School District will be receiving the most with over $2 million for their programs. Meanwhile, the Farmingdale Union Free School District will receive $919,00 and the Riverhead School District will receive a total of $1 million.

    Other districts receiving state grants include the Malverne School District, Merrick Union Free School District, Oyster Bay & East Norwich Central School District, Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District, Rockville Centre Union Free School District, Seaford Union Free School District and Syosset Central School District.

    Awarded districts will be able to operate a 180-day program for the 2024-25 school year, the department said.
