Norwalk Public Schools awarded $21.5 million for heating and cooling systems

Connecticut state officials announced $21.5 million in grants to improve heating and cooling systems at Norwalk Public Schools.

The funds will go toward the installation, replacement and upgrading of heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems and other improvements to indoor air quality in school buildings.

Norwalk city officials said the funds will help elevate the education experience during extreme weather conditions.

"This will continue on and on, this is not just a one-off, this is something we are going to make sure that we guarantee that every school in the City of Norwalk is up to code," said Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling.

The city identified six schools with priority needs for heating and cooling improvement.

Funds will go to benefit the following schools: Brien McMahon High School, Brookside Elementary School, Marvin Elementary School, Naramake Elementary School, Rowayton Elementary School and Silvermine Dual Language Magnet School.
