An executive chef in Brooklyn is offering tips to keep you safe while grilling this season.

It comes as the FDNY is reminding New Yorkers about the increase in these types of accidents during the summer.

Cenobio Canalizo, executive chef at Morgan's Brooklyn Barbecue, says to make sure to keep children away from any grill while cooking - and for at least an hour after you turn the heat off your grill, as it could take that long to cool off.

Canalizo says tools are important. Use tongs while you cook and make sure they’re long enough, so you don’t get too close to the grill’s hot surface. A wet towel is also important to keep nearby in case you do feel some heat.

The FDNY also says that if you're using a propane tank for your grill, make sure to inspect it and never attempt to repair a propane tank valve yourself - have a professional do it so no one gets hurt.
