Gov. Hochul announces $108M project to convert Bayview Correctional Facility to affordable housing

Gov. Kathy Hochul unveiled a $108 million proposal to transform the former Bayview Correctional Facility into a 124-unit affordable housing complex called "Liberty Landing." "Liberty Landing is a shiny example of how we can use underutilized properties across our state," said Hochul during a press conference. The announcement coming on the heels of another made by Gov. Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams to invest $500 million into building and preserving affordable housing in New York City. "A few years from now, New Yorkers will be unlocking doors to their beautiful homes in a place where people were once locked behind bars....free from worry with this new affordable housing," said Gov. Hochul. Thanks to a partnership between Camber Property Group and Osborne Association, Liberty Landing will deliver much more than just housing for New Yorkers. "Liberty Landing will feature on-site supportive services for those in need, like job training, family and relationship coaching, nutrition counseling, mental health care and more," said the governor. The development will also feature a 9,300-square-foot community facility unit dedicated to youth-oriented programming and will also feature a 15-unit short-term transitional residence to support individuals with mental health needs in need of temporary housing.
