Gov. Kathy Hochul unveiled a $108 million proposal to transform the former Bayview Correctional Facility into a 124-unit affordable housing complex called "Liberty Landing." "Liberty Landing is a shiny example of how we can use underutilized properties across our state," said Hochul during a press conference. The announcement coming on the heels of another made by Gov. Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams to invest $500 million into building and preserving affordable housing in New York City. "A few years from now, New Yorkers will be unlocking doors to their beautiful homes in a place where people were once locked behind bars....free from worry with this new affordable housing," said Gov. Hochul. Thanks to a partnership between Camber Property Group and Osborne Association, Liberty Landing will deliver much more than just housing for New Yorkers. "Liberty Landing will feature on-site supportive services for those in need, like job training, family and relationship coaching, nutrition counseling, mental health care and more," said the governor. The development will also feature a 9,300-square-foot community facility unit dedicated to youth-oriented programming and will also feature a 15-unit short-term transitional residence to support individuals with mental health needs in need of temporary housing. "This is all part of work to help New Yorkers as well as end our housing crisis and make our state more affordable and more livable," she said. "
