WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: - Canadian wildfire smoke continues to drift into the region, providing smoky and hazy skies up aloft which become more noticeable during sunrise, sunset and moonrise. - Smoky skies will start to thin out overnight into Saturday as an area of low pressure approaches the Northeast. - The smoke, mainly aloft in the atmosphere, will help to make the skies reddish but air quality is not expected to be impacted. - An area of low pressure moves into the area Saturday into Sunday. Saturday has an increase in cloud cover with spotty showers arriving late in the day. - Sunday is the wetter of the two days, with batches of rain on and off through the day. There may be quick and heavy downpours leading to localized flood concerns. - Monday has showers lingering but backing down in intensity as the system pulls away. - Tuesday into much of next week is trending cooler than average with comfortable levels of humidity. There are multiple nice days during that stretch but the best one, so far, looks to be Wednesday. It is the "pick of the week." - Ernesto is approaching Bermuda as a Category 2 hurricane and will impact the island nation through late Saturday. It will not directly impact the region. There may be slightly increased wave activity on the Long Island Sound but higher waves and dangerous rip currents will be possible for the Atlantic facing beaches, mainly on Long Island and New Jersey.
