Puerto Ricans who live in the Bronx are concerned over family members abroad as Hurricane Ernesto hit the Caribbean island this weekend. Ernesto accumulated 10 inches of rain, sustained 75 mph winds, triggered major landslides and flooding. Advocates from the nonprofit organization Mi Patria say over 730,000 people were left without power, and over 300,000 residents without water as of Saturday evening. Twenty-three hospitals were left to run on generators. Puerto Rico has a long history of devastation during weather events like Ernesto. Advocates in the Bronx said residents worry for their homes and loved ones when the natural disasters hit the island. The power supplier for Puerto Rico, Luma Energy, posted on X, formerly the social media site known as Twitter, that power was restored to 90% of residents. "
