The MTA will begin enforcing stricter violations for drivers who block or park in bus lanes, or double park on Aug. 19. With the use of ACE, or Automated Camera Enforcement, drivers caught violating MTA rules will be ticketed without warning. Fines start at $50 and can escalate to $250 for repeat blockers. Cameras will be posted on bus routes, including the Bx12-SBS, Bx19, Bx41-SBS, and Bx36. “Millions of New Yorkers depend on a safe and reliable bus operation to navigate the city,” said MTA Chief Accessibility Officer Quemuel Arroyo. “With the activation of ACE today, we can all look forward to clearer bus lanes resulting in faster commutes for all riders who use our buses to get to work, school, and to reach all corners of the city.” The MTA notes this new ticketing protocol is aimed at holding drivers accountable for slowing down bus service.
