Home evacuated and roads washed away as flooding wreaks havoc across Connecticut

Widespread flooding has closed numerous roads across Connecticut, with emergency crews performing water rescues and evacuating over 100 people statewide. In Oxford, firefighters used a ladder truck to reach stranded residents, while in Monroe, a section of Route 34 collapsed near the Stevenson Dam and will remain closed until further notice. Police are urging residents to avoid traveling in the northeast part of town, with Routes 34 and 111 also shut down. In Redding, roads are blocked by standing water, with some portions completely washed away. Police are warning of impassable roads and urging extreme caution. Aerial footage shows water pouring over the top of the dam on the Housatonic River between Derby and Shelton. Gov. Ned Lamont issued a statement Sunday night, saying, "Once daylight occurs, crews will survey damage and begin cleanup. If you live in the western portion of Connecticut, please stay home until flooding recedes, and never attempt to drive through flooded roads."
