The Orange County Department of Health has issued a public health alert after a horse in Newburgh tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), also known as Triple E. Health officials warn that EEE is one of the most serious mosquito-borne diseases in the United States, with a mortality rate of 30-60%. The disease is circulating among mosquitoes that bite mammals, including humans. Symptoms of EEE include:
    • Sudden headache
    • High fever
    • Chills
    • Vomiting
Residents are urged to report any suspected cases immediately by calling 845-291-2330. The health department is taking steps to monitor the situation and prevent further transmission. "
