A fallen hero and leader whose work brought awareness to the dangers of lithium-ion batteries, including in The Bronx was remembered at his funeral service Monday. FDNY Supervising Fire Marshal George Snyder Jr. suffered a cardiac episode in the line of duty passing away a day later at the age of 53. Mayor Eric Adams expressed his gratitude for Snyder. “There’s nothing more stinging and painful, sons are supposed to bury their moms’ mothers are not supposed to bury their sons,” said Mayor Adams. Firefighters from across the city and surrounding areas gathered to mourn the loss of one of their own. He was crucial in working to stop the spread of deadly lithium-ion battery fires like many seen in the Bronx as head of the Lithium-Ion Battery Task Force. He leaves behind his mother, three sisters, and many more close relatives. The mood was incredibly solemn at the service. Snyder spent 22 years as a member of the FDNY earning five merits since the start of his career in 2002. His work now leaves behind a legacy larger than himself. "
