Community members help Kinnelon karate studio impacted by Sunday’s flooding

Sunday night’s heavy rain caused flooding that badly damaged a Morris County karate studio. "There was water all over the place," said Makomi Miller, instructor of Traditional Okinawan Karate. Owner Chris Miller and his wife said that by 8:30 p.m. Sunday, the floor of their Kinnelon business was flooded with water. "The cleanup roughly took 20 people over nine hours. We had dry-vacs going and professional-grade fans the entire time. My goal was my students and myself was to be here by 4:30 p.m. to teach class," said Chris Miller. "Students came out on a Sunday night while raining to help the karate school," said Miller. "They vacuumed and vacuumed many hours and that's why we are open today. I appreciate it so much, just really the power of the dojo family," said his wife. Miller says that one of the first lessons his karate school teaches is the importance of getting up after you get knocked down. "
