Officials: Collapsed road, Mill Pond in Stony Brook could take years to repair

Monday's storm brought torrential rain and flooding to many areas of Long Island. Suffolk County declared a state of emergency as Stony Brook saw an entire road collapse that will take years to repair. Harbor Road at Main Street in Stony Brook was destroyed. The dam at neighboring Mill Pond sent waters into the street, adding in its destruction. Charles Lohmann, chief of police for Head of the Harbor, said that the concern now is for the seven homes, located on a side street that have been cut off. "Those people have no way of getting vehicles in or out of that street. In an emergency, a fire, ambulance call or police call we can’t get down that road. the street’s gone," he explained. Brookhaven Supervisor Dan Panico said it will take a lot of time and money to repair Harbor Road but plans to assist nearby residents are already being laid out.
