A family in East Setauket is trying to pick up the pieces after 9 feet of water filled their basement earlier this week. News 12 first spoke with George Echevarria on Monday, right after the devastating storm brought flooding to several Long Island communities. On Wednesday, the water was finally pumped from his basement, revealing the catastrophic damage left behind. The basement is still dripping wet, and was destroyed from floor to ceiling. The family is in the process of throwing away everything that was in the basement, including the drywall. Echevarria says he has reached out to FEMA and other government agencies, but so far has received no financial assistance. There js no flood insurance on the home. Neighbors blame Stony Brook University Hospital for the flooding. They claim a similar incident happened six years ago, and the previous homeowner sued the hospital. A spokesperson for Stony Brook University Hospital told News 12 the current situation is under review, but would not comment on any litigation. "
