    Fairfield creates new speed limit zones near schools

    Fairfield has established new speed limit zones throughout town ahead of the new school year. Police say the new "School Speed Limit 20 MPH zones" which have been approved by the state, will be on certain roadways during school days. Signs will be installed in the next few days and will take effect upon installation. The new speed limit will be enforced during the following hours in the designed school zones:
    Fairfield Public High Schools & Middle Schools: 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
    • Ludlowe High School/Middle School:
    Barlow Road (from Barlow Place to Unquowa Road) Unquowa Road (from Mill Plain Road to 740 feet east of Papermill Lane)
    • Warde High School:
    Knapps Highway (from Alvin Street to Melville Avenue) Melville Avenue (from Fairway Green to Old Farm Road) Elementary Schools: 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
    • Burr Elementary School:
    Burr Street (from Stonewall Lane to Wood House Road)
    • Riverfield Elementary School:
    Mill Plain Road (from Duck Farm Road to Lakeside Drive)
    • Dwight Elementary School:
    Redding Road (from Melin Drive to Cross Highway Private Schools: 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
    • Notre Dame High School:
    Jefferson Street (from 250 feet west of Park Avenue to 250 feet west of Donna Drive) Police urge all drivers to adhere to the new limits and help ensure the safety of students. "
