A Southbury man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for illegal possessing sawed-off shotguns and gun silencers. Anthony Englehardt was sentenced Thursday. Court documents showed that on March 13, 2023, Englehardt shot a hole in the ceiling of a Torrington home using a rifle and then left the residence. Officials did not provide information on what led to the shooting or the connection between that residence and Englehardt. At the time of the shooting, Englehardt had a protective order, issued by the Waterbury Superior Court, that forced him to surrender his firearms and ammunition. Englehardt was taken into custody by state police and charged with multiple charges the next day. Later that day during a search at his home, officers found 10 guns, six silencers and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition. He was also in possession of various firearms parts and accessories. Three of the guns were sawed-off shotguns and not registered. The six silencers were also unregistered. Officials say Englehardt had been detained since his federal arrest in May 2023. In April, Englehardt pled guilty to possession of unregistered National Firearms Act firearms and silencers. After his sentence, Englehardt will face three years of parole. "
