It's been one year since the Department of Transportation began work to make safety improvements along Park Avenue from East 165th street to East 188th Street. The project added protective bike lanes along Park Avenue from Tremont to Fordham, and will shorten crosswalks, provide more visibility, and organize the road to reduce speeding by the time it's completed. "I’ve seen some improvements in slowing down the traffic so that’s a good thing," said Margie Gonzalez, who lives near Park Avenue. But not all are on board with the changes, including people like Natasha who live along Park and Tremont avenues. "All it did is cause confusion they just making a havoc of the place, there’s nowhere for us to park,” said Natasha. The Department of Transportation said in statement to News 12: "NYC DOT looks forward to finishing this critical north-south protected bike lane in the Bronx. Implementation is ongoing and we continue to build critical safety infrastructure in the Bronx to ensure this borough gets its fair share of Vision Zero improvements," The project is estimated to be completed by the end of 2024.
