The FDNY has confirmed that a lithium-ion battery started a Ocean Hill fire earlier this week that injured nine people and displaced 31.
The blaze began around 10:40 p.m. at 2411 Dean St. and quickly spread through the cocklofts, impacting four adjacent buildings. The fire caused extensive damage, including the collapse of the roof in the building where the fire started. The FDNY and officials like Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker held a press conference to discuss the dangers of lithium-ion batteries on Thursday. "This is a request for the public's help. We have to do more, we have to be more aware of the dangers of lithium ion batteries," said Tucker. For more information on lithium ion-battery safety, click here . "
