Hot Bread Kitchen, a nonprofit, is helping ease the transition back into the workforce for women, women of color and gender expansive individuals across the city. The five-week intensive culinary training teaches the basics in the kitchen while offering financial support. Participants receive a weekly stipend of $160 and a free MetroCard, as well as a case manager who can help with child care and housing needs. The five-week program also includes job readiness training and participants are connected to job opportunities. In July, the Department of Labor reported an increase in the number of unemployed Bronx residents compared to last year. Hot Bread Kitchen hopes to tackle that issue. Applications are now
open for the next batch of learners. The next cohort will be hosted at East Side Settlement at 805 E. 135th St., Bronx. Interviews will begin on Sept. 16 for the program and the cohort will run from Sept. 23-Nov. 1. "
