Around 1,500 motorcyclists hit the road from Sherwood Island in Westport Sunday morning – a charitable tradition that began in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks. The event pays a special tribute to Connecticut heroes lost in the line of duty and those who served after 9/11. Riders traveled approximately 60-miles from through nine cities and towns in Fairfield County, concluding their ride at Seaside Beach in Bridgeport. "This is how you never forget," said Fred Garrity Jr., the event’s executive director. "This is what America is all about. Everyone is red, white and blue and we're all standing together today." "Riding through the streets – and the flags and the firemen – it’s just a very emotional ride and just proud to be a part of it," said Richard Corraro, of Shelton. The money raised benefits family emergency relief funds for Connecticut police officers and firefighters, as well as two local United Way nonprofits. "
