Emergency crews are on the scene of a significant water main break that occurred overnight, creating a large sinkhole and leaving local residents without water. The incident took place in a parking lot outside an apartment building on the corner of Bay 37th Street and Cropsey Avenue. Rushing water from the break appeared to cause a substantial sinkhole, which nearly swallowed a parked Jeep. The hole is now preventing tenants from driving their cars out of the lot. The Jeep was pulled from the hole and towed away this morning. "It’s scary, but I just hope it doesn’t last too long because we need to shower, some people cook," said Kelly Contreras, a tenant. The Department of Environmental Protection is investigating the cause of the water main break. In the meantime, Bay 37th Street remains closed, and the DEP reports that three apartment buildings and seven homes are without water while repairs are underway. "
