Tenants at 1777 Grand Concourse are taking their building to court. Over 30 tenants are being represented by Bronx Legal Services in a lawsuit against
Asden Management who owns multiple buildings in the Bronx. Residents say for years, missing stoves, broken fridges, rat infestations, mold and leaks have gone without repairs. According to the city's Department of Housing Preservation Development (HPD), the property has 561 open violations . A total of 206 of those are considered “Class C” violations, which has some of the highest fines a building owner could face. One tenant showed News 12 a letter from HPD that said the agency had issued a Class C violation over mice issues with a mandated repair date of Sept. 10, the same day our crews visited the building. The “certification of correction” date was listed as Sept. 15, which means HPD will be revisiting the apartment to verify that repairs had been made. Douglas Henderson, Jr. who is a lawyer representing tenants through Bronx Legal Services said residents just want one simple thing. “We're not asking for the yellow brick road," he says. "We're just asking for a decent place to live for our tenants.” "
