Jacobi Hospital honored Bronx residents and Bronx workers who died in 9/11 or due to 9/11-related illnesses. Twenty-three years later, the effects of 9/11 still linger. Elected officials and community members gathered at the 9/11 memorial garden at Jacobi Hospital. Attendees placed white roses on top of the memorial site where dozens of 9/11 victims' names were listed. Nearly
3,000 women, men and children died that day. "You're here reflecting on what we lost, but most importantly, who we are and what we have to gain by making sure that future generations and my children will never forget about what this day was and how we can be better." said state Sen. Jamaal T. Bailey. The memorial includes dozens of names of Bronx residents and Bronx workers who died in 9/11 or due to 9/11-related illnesses. "I have friends who are still being treated, some who have died and some who are still struggling with the aftereffects of 911," said Joe Ithier, chair of NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx's Community Advisory Board.
