Just a month after being shot five times in the leg, Dezinier Haskins was able to drum in The African American Day Parade. “I had to get ready in three weeks. So I literally pushed myself to, get up and just do it,” said Haskins. The Marine Corps veteran spent three days in recovery at the hospital, after being shot multiple times in his legs. Just weeks after being shot, he was up and drumming. His will to support his fellow drummers motivated his road to recovery. “To actually be harnessed up and put in a wheelchair at the same time. And drumming was a little challenging,” said Haskins. The shooting victim first shared his story with News 12 last month from his hospital bed. He was shot on Walton Avenue outside of his own birthday party. A month later, he still has a bullet lodged in his shin. Haskins was not the intended target in this shooting and police tell News 12 they do not have any leads in the case. Haskins says his next goal is to be able to march in the drum line without a wheelchair at the Annual Bronx Halloween Parade. "
