A cutting-edge, first-of-its-kind public school rolled out the red carpet Wednesday in Westchester's largest city. Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, school Superintendent Anibal Soler, Jr. and other local leaders joined film producer Robert Halmi Jr. at a ribbon-cutting event to mark the opening of the Robert Halmi Sr. Academy of Film and Television. The institution, which was named after Halmi's legendary producer father, is a high school-level trade school that provides hands-on learning to students interested in careers in the film industry. Halmi Jr. founded the Hallmark Channel and Great Point Studios in Yonkers. He also produced more than 400 film and TV projects. He tells News 12 that the students will be offered instruction on everything from TV production and design to social media marketing and sound design. "
