Another phase of the redevelopment project at Redmond Park in Yonkers has been completed. Kids are now able to play on the fields. Over 100 kids went to the park in their team uniforms and were getting ready for a season of Gaelic sports on Thursday. “Without this field, we wouldn’t be able to have 100 kids. We might have had 50 kids in a smaller field,” said Cian O’Dea, game development coordinator with New York Minor Board. News 12 talked with kids, parents and coaches. They said they’re over the moon to have a new place close to home to play Gaelic sports. “It’s completely transformed so it’s very exciting to be able to bring my own kids here to play,” said parent Maureen Nerney. The park has been undergoing improvements since 2021. Both the New York Minor Board and City of Yonkers have contributed millions to the project. Officials and the New York Minor Board believe having these new fields will have a strong impact on kids in the community. “It’s just great to get new blood into the GAA, not only Irish kids but kids from all backgrounds can come and play and I think it’s great for the city,” Nerney said. But the renovations to the park aren’t done yet. Officials say a playground, fitness area and light poles for the fields will also be built. “We’re excited. I think the community is glad to have a facility like this and we’re going to continue to develop it,” said Mike Sullivan, with the New York Minor Board. "
