    "

Bayonne residents are concerned about the health effects of mysterious dust collecting on their cars and in their homes. “We've never had a problem here since I was a kid growing up,” said resident Gene Perry. “There's never been a scrapyard here, never dust, never air problems that we're having now.” The part of the city near Lexington Avenue and Brady’s Dock is zoned as industrial. There’s a large scrapyard next to homes and apartments, something the city is in litigation over regarding fire safety. Despite the area’s industrial history, the odd dust that’s entering people’s homes is a relatively new issue. The rust-colored matter can be seen coated on cars, along swimming pools and even inside homes. The Hudson Regional Health Commission is investigating what exactly this matter is and where it’s coming from. “There’s a park right here,” Perry said. “People are fishing, kids are here. We shouldn't have to breathe this all day long.” The Office of Emergency Management says wearing a protective mask is a personal choice at this point. Some residents said they aren’t opening their windows anymore. Mayor Jimmy Davis said he is expecting the results within a week. "
