Community members gathered at Temple Shaaray Tefila in Bedford Corners on Friday to honor victims ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7 attack in Israel. The ceremony took place on the second day of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish new year. Members of the synagogue gathered in front of a clay art installation that memorialized the lives lost during the Oct. 7 attacks. Shoshana Dweck, a member of the temple board, wanted the installment to be a permanent reminder of those who died. Kalaniyot, also known as red anemones, are Israel’s national flowers. They are being used to symbolize resilience and remembrance. The clay flowers are also decorated with yellow ribbons, giving each flower a meaning. Donations can be made through the temple, with the proceeds going toward Israeli charities. "
