Police: Suffolk officer airlifted to hospital following Dix Hills crash

A Suffolk County police officer was airlifted to a hospital Thursday following a two-vehicle crash in Dix Hills, police say. Police say it happened around 5 p.m. on the eastbound Long Island Expressway between exits 50 and 51. The officer was transported to a hospital by a Suffolk County police helicopter. The other driver did not require medical attention. The eastbound LIE was temporarily closed at Exit 51. "
