    Calverton veteran killed in Korean War brought to final resting place after 74 years

    The remains of a Korean War veteran from Calverton have been accounted for and brought back to Long Island to be buried. U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Israel Ramos, who was killed during the Korean War, was accounted for May 2, 2024. The 18-year-old went missing in August 1950. Ramos’ body was found in Korea in 1956, brought to Hawaii and buried as an unknown soldier. In 2021, his body was exhumed, identified through DNA testing and brought back to his family on Long Island. Sgt. 1st Class Ramos was brought to his final resting place at Calverton National Cemetary after 74 years. "
