A group of Fairfield moms is taking its popular October "dances to donate" to the big city. The Fairfield Mombies
are ordinary moms dressed as zombies who perform flash mob dances in October. They do it not only for the fun but also to raise money for metastatic breast cancer research. "My two best friends from elementary school are currently fighting this beast, and this is a way to feel like I'm embracing them and supporting them," says Fairfield Mombie Eileen Brennan-Cress. "Mombies to me means community and support and friendship, and, you know, the fact that we are raising money for breast cancer research, and it’s so important. So many people are affected by it," says Fairfield Mombie Kate Garin. Seven Mombies are battling breast cancer or survivors of the disease. Caryn Sullivan has been rehearsing her moves during chemo treatments at Yale Since 2016, the Mombies have raised over $500,000. They are getting donations from all over the world. "Our videos have gone viral, and that's honestly how we've been able to raise so much money," says Brennan-Cress. The Mombies have their biggest performance yet this Saturday at noon at the Seaport in New York City. "Getting to perform in New York City is such a dream," says Brennan-Cress. 'It's a little bit nerve-racking but I think we're going to kill it," said Garin. They're back in Fairfield Saturday. They'll be on Lalley Boulevard in Fairfield on Halloween. "These women work so hard. They're some of the greatest moms. We laugh till we cry, and sometimes we cry till we laugh. It is the best sisterhood that I never knew how much I needed but I was given," says Brennan-Cress. "
